Today’s reading: Romans 8:5-11

A huge part of learning to follow Jesus, is listening for His voice as we read the Bible. The first step toward this is ASKING God to speak, so before you read any farther today stop and ask God to open your heart to whatever He has to say.

Once you’ve done that, open your Bible to the passage below. Read it all the way through once. After that read it through again, and underline one sentence or thought that stands out to you. Once you’ve done that, read it one more time and circle one word that resonates.

Now what: Often when we pray we imagine we’re praying to some God up in the heavens that we can’t really imagine. He feels distant and far away. How would you pray differently if you knew you were talking to Jesus, who lived on this earth and understands? If you often feel like God is disappointed in your failures, what if instead you viewed him as understanding them.

Before, the hope God offered was distant and vague. But by becoming human and being WITH us we see how deep God’s love for us really is. Our belief in God’s goodness is based on the reality of Jesus. Do you struggle to believe that God is good, or that He genuinely loves you? Admit that to Him, and ask Him to help you understand His love for you.
